Evacuation order issued for Finger Lake area

An Evacuation Order was been issued by Saik’uz First Nation and Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako effective July 08, 2023 at 2330 hours due to a wildfire.

An Evacuation Order was been issued by Saik’uz First Nation and Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako effective July 08, 2023 at 2330 hours due to a wildfire.

Because of the danger to life and health, Saik’uz First Nation and the Regional District of BulkleyNechako have issued an Evacuation Order, for all those lands and dwellings to the south of the Bobtail Connector & Kluskus Forest Service Roads, in the vicinity of Finger Lake, including those accessed off Lavoie Gold Road, Long Lake Road, or 6100 Road, as shown on the attached map.

Residents were asked to leave the area immediately and register at the reception centre.

The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako said they may be unable to assist anyone who remains in the Evacuation Order area.

Persons who disregard this Evacuation Order and remain in the Evacuation Order area do so at their own risk.

If you need transportation assistance from the area call the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako at 250-692-1553. In addition the regional district has issued some safety protocols:

  • Close all windows and doors.
  • Shut off all gas and electrical appliances, other than refrigerators and freezers.
  • Close gates (latch) but do not lock.
  • Gather your family: take a neighbour or someone who needs help.
  • Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, and keys) only if they are immediately available. Take pets in pet kennels or on a leash.
  • Do not use more vehicles than you must.
  • If you require assistance for livestock, please call the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako at 250-692-1553.

Evacuees: Register at the Reception Centre located at the Vanderhoof Municipal Arena at 340 Columbia Street East or contact Emergency Support Services Director at 778-916-1995.

Emergency Support Services can provide assistance for food, accommodation, hotel or staying with friends and family, clothing, emotional support, and family reunification.
